To clean your cauldron wash it with mild soap and warm water
only. Dry it in the oven on a low heat, or turn it upside
down over a burner on the hob on a very low flame. It should
never be placed in a dishwasher or left to air dry.
Whilst my husband was paying for the cauldron the owner of
the shop gave us the sad news that we'd just made it in time
to make our purchase, as the shop was to close the following
month. As it stands in the old part of Whitby, the rising
prices for renting and maintaining property there and the
obviously high council tax for the area meant that the owner
could no longer afford to renew the lease, at the end of that
season. We wished him well and I expressed regret that I'd
only recently discovered the shop. Maybe he found the extra
money from somewhere - maybe that brilliant little shop, crammed
with all kinds of treasures, is still there. Maybe it's now
a shop selling something entirely different. Such a shame
that I didn't discover it sooner, but at least my cauldron
came to me as a result of a chance wander into that excellent
little shop. When we next spend a day in Whitby, the first
thing I'll do is go and see if that shop is still there. I
hope it is.
