Stones for the Goddess, Stones for
the God - April 2005
The
use of crystals, minerals, metals and gems in witchcraft
is by no means limited to magic. Often crystals are used
as body adornments, for decorating our homes and also
for honour and thanks to the Deities.
As you will know, all stones have different energies,
properties and personalities, from the warm loving glow
of the Rose Quartz to the magical, mystical flash of the
Amethyst.
They also all have different associations, whether it
be with a certain Element, planet, number or sex. Some
stones have this type of association with the Goddess
and the God. Interestingly this combined with other associations
can link the stone to a specific deity, for example, Amethyst
is a stone associated with the God however, its relative
Element is water and its relative planet is Neptune, so
this would be an ideal stone to use when worshipping or
working with a water God such as Posiden, Bran or Njord,
however there are some stones which are linked to a specific
Goddess or God already. Again, using Amethyst as an example,
this is the stone of Dionysus and the Bacchus, known for
their joyous revelling and indulgence of wine. Amethyst
is credited with the ability to overcome drunkenness.
There are countless stones which are associated with particular
Deities, too many to list here but another interesting
example is Onyx. Onyx has had a somewhat shady reputation
in the past. It reputedly housed demons which were said
to awaken at night and cause havoc. It is also said that
one must exercise caution when working with onyx as it
can produce discord if misused. The God associated with
Onyx is Mars, the God of war, the ultimate discord.
Goddess
Stones
There are stones which are linked to the Mother Goddess.
Milky, celestial stones are used for the Goddess.
These include things like Moonstone, Selenite, Quartz
crystal, and even Geodes. There are also naturally
formed treasures such as coral and pearl which are
intricately linked with the Mother Goddess on account
of their connections with the sea. |
