Unfamiliar
Friends - August 2006
Many of us are familiar with crystals and
their unique energies. Rose quartz is often called upon
to heal a broken heart; Amethyst is used to promote restful
dreamy sleep just as a tiger's eye can be used in spells
for luck and riches. But there are so many varieties of
crystals, many seem to go unnoticed. This month I hope to
share with you a few of my favourite crystals that you may
be familiar with but are somehow often overlooked. Sometimes
this might be because the crystal is harder to come by,
not so commercially available. It may be because they are
so easily cut into gems or have little ornamental value,
but regardless, this selection of my favourite stones have
powers and energies which are unique to themselves.
Dolomite
Dolomite is a brittle stone which is
found in a variety of colours, from pale grey to brown
and even pink. The stones often contain many different
shades. The piece of Dolomite which I own has the
appearance of wood. Dolomite is actually a mineral
and is part of the carbonate family. It is named after
French mineralogist Deodat de Dolomieu.

Dolomite is an uplifting stone. Its ability to lighten ones mood really is extraordinary. Keep an empowered piece of dolomite in a red pouch in your bag or purse and take it out at times when you feel distressed, agitated or angry. Feel its smooth surface and admire its blend of colours. Another use of dolomite is that it releases feelings of selfishness and allows you to be more considerate of others needs, be it emotional or material.
