Working
with crystals and gemstones in magic can be very rewarding.
Not only do you get to work with beautiful rocks, every
one different, but you can harness the individual powers
and personalities of those rocks. Before working with
any stones it is important to first cleanse them of any
energies they may have picked up prior to coming into
your possession.
Cleansing Your
Crystals.
Every stone has the ability to hold energy with in it.
Sometimes this energy is positive, but it can also be
unpleasant, negative energy. When we use crystals in gem
magic it is essential that they are clear from any impurities
caused by this energy. Imagine the crystal to be like
an artists canvass. For the best results, the canvass
must be clean to begin with so when the artist puts his
own work on the canvass, there are no unwanted distractions.
There are many ways in which crystals, gems, minerals
and other stones can be cleansed. It is important to pick
the correct method so as not to damage the stone.
Sunlight:
To cleanse your stones in the sunlight, simply place them
in a spot where the suns rays will land on them. Leave
them here for a day. Be aware that some stones can be
damaged by strong sunlight.
Moonlight:
The same as above, but instead, place your gems where
the moonbeams will land on them and leave them over night.
I like to do this when the moon is full.
Salt: Place
your stones in a dish of salt, and leave them overnight.
Saltwater:
Submerge your stones in a bowl of water with sea
salt added to it and leave them over night. Ideally, you
can hold your stones in the sea for a few moments, allow
the waves to wash over them. Please note: Some stones
can be penetrated by the tiny salt crystals and this can
alter the stones appearance so please take care with this
and the above method.
Fresh water:
Place your stones in fresh water, such as a stream or
a brook and allow them to be cleansed by the rushing waters.
Earth:
Gems can be cleansed of negativity by burying them
in the earth and leaving them overnight. You must be sure
you will be able to locate them again after though when
it is time to dig them up.
Smoke:
Incense smoke burned at the altar can cleanse stones of
stored energies. Hold the stone carefully above the incense
and let the smoke spiral around it.
I always cleanse a stone after it has been used for a
magical purpose when it is no longer required. You can
also periodically cleanse your stones if you like.
