Martian Moldavite

Moldavite is a stone which is strongly linked with psychic powers, divination and prophetic dreaming. Named after the Moldau Valley, in the Czech Republic, it is the only know gem quality material to come from outer space. It is a from of bottle green tektite, found only in the Moldau Valley, and was created when a meteorite hit the earth 20 million years ago and threw fragments of the stone over a vast area. This stone is rare, but obtainable, however as the supply is used up, it is becoming more difficult to find and more expensive. Moldavite has many historical links throughout history. It has been claimed in Wolfram Von Eschenbach's Parzivial, that the Holy Grail was created from Moldavite. Some believe that Excalibur was crafted from Meteoric materials, others that the sacred stone of Islam in Mecca could have been Moldavite and some even suggest links with the Philosophers Stone. Moldavite is a very fragile stone and will scratch easily. It is important never to cleanse it with salt, as this will cause damage to the gem.

I heard that the first time you encounter Moldavite, it will make itself known to you, and when I heard about this fascinating stone, I had to have a piece. I searched for it, and one day I came across some tiny fragments in a shop in Exeter. I asked the lady if I could have a look at them more closely so I could pick which piece I wanted.

When she put the little box of Moldavite on the counter I suddenly became very hot and started to sweat. I commented upon how warm it was in the shop, and she laughed and replied, "That'll be the Moldavite, Dear." This truly is a magnificent and magical stone, and my all time favourite. When used in magic relating to matters of psychism I feel it is the best you can use. It is used to open the third eye and is even believed to open the mind to extra terrestrial communications.

Other uses for the gem include fertility magic and accessing latent memories. It may also be used as an aid to past life recall. For many years Moldavite has also been used as a protective amulet. It is suggested that Moldavite be used with care and respect. Because if its lofty nature, it is recommended that after using the stone, you should be sure to ground yourself and your energies properly, maybe with the help of a piece of smokey quartz.
